In all the news about Obama blaming his Kentucky loss on Fox News, he all but gives away the game regarding his distain for middle America. And we should not ignore it. First it was the gun toting Jesus lovers. Now it's this: "What it says is that I'm not very well known in that part of the country," Obama said. "Sen. Clinton, I think, is much better known, coming from a nearby state of Arkansas. So it's not surprising that she would have an advantage in some of those states in the middle .

Epic Gillmor Gang today . Everyone went in with guns blazing over the data portability/ownership debate that has spilled out over the Facebook/Google scuffle . DataPortability founder Chris Saad was also on the call, but failed to take a leadership position in the debate (he did, however, weigh in with a blog post on the subject before the call). Their influence may be waning. As the podcast ended the blog posts started rolling in. Marc Canter, who I accuse of compromising his position as a thought leader in the data portability debate simply because Facebook is suddenly telling him everything he wants to hear, says that his position hasn't changed (nevertheless, it has).

Earlier this week, a Mozilla executive told Computerworld that the first release candidate for Firefox 3 would be released in late May . Guess what? He was wrong. Firefox 3 RC1 is available now , which certainly isn't "late May" by any stretch. But this is one case when a company honcho's incorrect statement pays off big for you. As I've written before, FF3 is an excellent browser , and is much better than its predecessor, Firefox 2. If you are a Firefox user, you owe it to yourself to download and try this version.

Unlike some corporations (who won't be named, but their initials are MS), they actually beat their estimated release date for RC1. As late as last week, when announcing that RC1 was "code complete," Mozilla indicated that the public release was aimed for late May. Nevertheless, despite the spelling-challenged assertions from last Saturday, RC1 is now available for download , and is being offered as an update to those running Firefox 3 Beta 5.

Right on the heels of the awful court decision in France saying that eBay can be barred from selling even legitimate products, it appears some companies in England are shooting for a similar ruling. Jon Pyser writes in to let us know that a bunch of baby stroller companies in the UK are pushing hard to stop retailers from selling their legitimately purchased products on eBay . Effectively, they're trying to put EULAs on baby strollers suggesting that the retailer buyers don't actually have the right to resell what they've legally purchased.

"Piddle packs"--heavy-duty bags containing absorbent sponges--have been blamed for at least two crashes over the years, and they're not always tidy. A few years ago, after enduring years of complaints from pilots, the Air Force let it be known that it was looking for an answer. A small medical equipment development company in Milton, Vermont answered the call.
